nearly identical arent they?

Answer:
No they are different:
Although they have some properties in common, the chemical composition is quite different

Eucalyptus oil consists mainly -(up to 90%)- of eucalyptol (1,8 cineol). Maybe you will find some camphene and fenchone.

In contradiction tea tree oil is mixture of of several substances. The most important are terpinen-4-ol, α-terpinen , terpinolen and terpineol (and traces of eucalyptol).
