Diapers all have almost the same distinct odor. Whenever my child has a wet diaper (not messy though), it intensifies the smell. It's actually not bad, considering that it's filled with urine. It seems to be the same in all brands, but stronger in Pampers I think. It's not new because I remember it from my babysitting days.
What do they use to do this? and/or how does it work?
Answer:
They wouldn't be adding anything to mask odor. The smell serves two purposes.
For one thing, it gets the kid a dry bottom, which means his skin doesn't break down and he's a lot happier.
The second reason, of course, is that if you change the diapers more frequently, you will have to buy more diapers.
