i know that chloral hydrate is in fact ILLEGAL to posses without a licence. but is chloral itself illegal to posses? i need it as a precursor but i dont know if it is illegal too?

I do not know if it is illegal. Since it is a precursor to chloral hydrate I would assume it is. It can, however, be purchased from Aldrich.
