When is it best to use the constant-pressure caloriemetry, and when is it best to use the constant-volume?
Answer:
Sarah M is right. Constant -volume calorimetry is used in things like combustion calorimetry where there are gases formed as products that would push out against a constant pressure and release some of the energy as PV work. Constant pressure is used in situations like titration calorimetry where everything is in solution and there is no chance of mechanical (PV) work being done.
Constant volume would be best if you are worried about losing heat as work (it takes energy to increase the volume)
Not sure what else would need to be considered
