Chemistry Question?
For many years, tetraethyl lead, Pb(C2H5)4, a colourless liquid, was added to gasoline to improve engine performance. Over the last 20 years it has been replaced with non-lead-containing additives due to health risks.associated with exposure to lead. Tetraethyl lead was added to gasoline up to 2.o mL per 3.8 mL (1.0 US gallon) of gasoline.
(a.) Calculate the mass of tetraethyl lead in 1.0 L of gasoline. The density of Pb (c2H5)4 is 1.653g/mL.
(b.) Calculate the mass of elemental lead in 1.0 L of gasoline.
This is a question from my assignment due tomorrow. I do not understand what you have to do. Major help please??
Answer:
it is said in plain text what you should do. you should calculate the mass of lead.
should i tell you the same in your other profile?
now.
u have 2ml tetraethyl lead in 3.8l gas, meaning 2.73g. divide that by 3.8 and u get the amount (in grams)in 1 L.
the molecular weight of tetraethyl lead is 323.44, and the Pb in it is 64.06%.
therefore 64.06% of what u got in a) is the answer to b).
1. Use proportional algebra to calculate the number of mLs of TEL in 1 L of gas. (use the 2.0 mL TEL per 3.8 L gas info).
2. Convert the mLs of TEL to grams using the density.
3. Calculate the percentage of lead in TEL using atomic and molecular weights.
4. Use the percentage of lead in TEL and more proporational algebra to calculate the grams of lead in the grams of TEL that you calculated in step 2.
5. Write on your homework paper that you got help from some nitwit on FunQA.coms otherwise you're probably in violation of your Honor Code.
