Outrage as Churchill dropped from England's history syllabus?
what a shambles this new labour gov are,to drop churchill from history lessons is absurd,if it wasnt for churchill and his like we would have all be going about in jackboots

I live in Wales and shudder to think what our history syllabus is like these days. I'm tempted to home school my son when he gets to school age. My Other Half will teach him all about WWII and the Battle of Britain as he is a member of the BoB Society.
Most kids these days don't have a clue about it anyway so it's very much not going to make a heck of a lot of difference, sadly.
Yes its a complete disgrace and its also stupid to take things out of a syllabus that young people will find interesting.
The fact is Churchill lifted the spirits of this nation and got us to stand and fight in the face of adversity. Yes this nation and arguably the free world owes a lot to his memory. He continues to be an inspiration to others even today.

So how are they gonna teach anything about the second world war if they dont mention Churchill? Or is that out the window too? I taught my kids the history i felt they should know, their heritage and about the atrocities in the homeland etc (even though I am technically British). Im sure the govt want uneducated masses, so they can rule them without anyone questioning it.

Well, when I was at school we were taught nothing of Churchill either. We did a lot of the First World War, but none of the Second. That said, I still know a fair bit about all these subjects - largely from television. Most probably today's and tomorrow's kids will also chance across the dozens of documentaries that are all over certain TV channels and educate themselves on this matter.

In the novels 1984 and Brave New World which both gave a vision of the future - the governments rewrote history.

You're overreacting. They're not "dropping Churchill from the syllabus", they're opening up the syllabus. They're making it more flexible and letting teachers decide what they want to teach, instead of having a rigid curriculum decided on a national level. Be happy; it means that teachers will actually be able to teach and your kids will not be treated like robots, fed the same government-mandated set of facts about what is important and what is not.
Obviously, any history teacher worth their salt will make the correct decision and teach about Winston Churchill. It would be impossible not to mention him in any history of the 20th century. Adolf Hitler is also being removed from the official syllabus; this has nothing to do with being PC, it has to do with improving education. More freedom for teachers = better.

I think they'll reach a compromise: new "evidence" will be uncovered that proves Churchill was black or gay or a Muslim and he'll retain his place in our history, only children will learn about him in a way that is more relevant to modern life. Seems fair.
