Does phosphoric acid react violently when combined with copper sulphate?
Answer:
They would react. How violently depends on the quantity and ratio that are combined. Phosphoric acid is a liquid containing phosphate and hydrogen ions. However phosphoric acid also acts as oxidizers. As for copper sulfate, it is typically a solid. If dissolved in water, copper (II) and sulfate would be present. When copper sulfate is add to Phosphoric acid when a pH less than about 5 results, then a copper phosphate, Cu3(PO4)2, would precipitate.
Phosphoric acid is used in dental applications and a combined o-phosphoric acid and copper (II) sulfate solution or gel can be used to bond steel attachments to tooth enamel. Cement http://www.medscape.com/medline/abstract...
no, but don't try it at home.
