What is the ionic equation (including states), for the reaction: HCl + KOH?
Answer:
H+ (aq) + Cl- (aq) + K+ (aq) + (OH-) >>
Cl- (aq) + K+ (aq) + H2O
No precipitation occurs because KCl is a strong salt
KCl >> K+ + Cl-
If the number of moles of HCl = number of moles KOH we have a neutralization and pH will be = 7
the net reaction is
H+ (aq) + OH- (aq) >> H2O
Full ionic:
H+(aq) + Cl-(aq) + K+(aq) + OH-(aq) --> K+(aq) + Cl-(aq) + H2O(l)
So the overall net ionic reaction (cancel the ions that appear on both sides):
H+(aq) + OH-(aq) --> H2O(l)
This is true for all acid-base neutralisation reactions.
(H+ + Cl-)+(K+ + HO-)------> (K+ + Cl-) + H2O
arer the both aq solutions? if they are both aq solutions,
HCl(aq) + KOH(aq)=H2O(l) +KCl(aq)
