What kind of soda will float or sink in both its diet and regular form?
Answer:
no difference between diet or no diet, as long as it´s carbonated enough so it can float, it will.
Regular sodas typically contain 45-50 grams of sugar. This results in the soda having a density of ~1.05 g/mL (heavier than water).
Diet sodas do not contain sugar and the density will be very close to water (1.00 g/mL)
All unopened soda cans contain a small air pocket. This air pocket is sufficiently large to allow the diet soda cans to float in water.
However, the air pocket is NOT large enough to overcome the density of regular sodas. Consequently, cans of regular soda sink in water.
NOTE: The amount of carbonation in these beverages only minimally contributes to these effects.
