I use some paper that has kno3 deposited on it - info can be found here http://www.jamesyawn.com/ignitors/fusepa... . This works great, and is easy to use. I am assuming your smoke bombs are 60/40 kno3/sugar, or there about, and this works to ignite that. I do not know if this will ignite is inserted into molten mixture; if that is how you make your smoke bombs be aware of that possibility (test away from all other material...) Finally, I assume, though do not know, that your rope could be substituted for the paper.
You could also buy fuse from skylighter - easy, reliable, and you know how fast it burns www.skylighter.com
