What is the easiest chemical compund to research on. Any simple chemical element/compund from periodic table?

I am supposed to do a skit to present a chemical compound/element and present it to several 12 year olds. What chemical compund/element should I work on. Shouldn't be to too difficult for them to understand. (I should also talk about the physical properties and the changes or whatever)

Thanks a million!

Answer:
Carbon / Iron are the best elements to explain to 12 years olds.
NaCl (salt)

NaHCO3 (sodium bicarbonate---baking soda)
what about water?
good ol' H2O
how about sucrose (table sugar)? All kids like sugar.
I think water would be your best candidate. It is so important and relatively simple to describe. Kids are already familiar with it so you would be drawing on prior knowledge. You might also point out the polar nature of water, so several things could be explained like the immiscibility of non-polar molecules and surface tension. You could also be a molecule of water by putting a big ball of some kind around your head and holding two smaller balls or balloons in each hand with your arms stretched out at what is it, 108 degrees, or thereabouts.
Wow, it is actually amazing how almost noone ever reads, nor answers, the question actually asked in here.

Try Hydrogen. It is #1 on the periodic table, and also the simplest element known to gawd and man. It has an atomic number of 1, 1 electron/proton, a chemical abbreviation of H, and is the most abundant element on this planet, and most others. You can't get any simpler.
Oxygen is essential to life, and involved in most organic compounds. It is involved in respiration and photosynthesis. It also is required for combustion. Plus it is the second most prevalent element in the atmosphere.
There are no compounds on the Periodic Table, only elements. Try hygrogen (H) as it is the most common element.

If you can use compounds, I would suggest water.
