Can i use the cubic inch as a measurment of liquid volume instead of mL??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/us_customar...
it says in this link : 1 cubic inch (cu in) =16.387 064 mL
i thought cubic inch is for solid structures not liquid

Answer:
Natural Gas coming through pipelines is measured in cubic feet. It is more accurate to use the ml. but you could use cubic inches.
mL (1cm x 1cm x 1cm) and in³ (1" x 1" x 1") are measures of volume and can apply to solids, liquids and gases.
1 in³ = 2.54 x 2.54 x 2.54 = 16.387 cm³ (cc).
1 cc = 1mL. (= 1 gram of pure water).
You can see now that 1 in³ is over 16 mL.
It's said (on medicine bottles), that 1 teaspoon = 5 mL.
So, 1 in³ is a little more than 3 teaspoons (of liquid).
Gases occupy much more space than liquids and can't be measured easily or satisfactorily in mL.
The gas you receive to your home for heating and cooking is sold by the Cubic Foot which is converted to 'Therms' or Btu's for the bill.
(1 ft³ = 12 x 12 x 12 = 1,728 in³).
