PH of Sugar?
Answer:
Sugar does not release H+ ion in water solution, so adding it to water will not change the pH of water. The test for sugar in water is the old "Fehling Solution" test with starch and KI. In the presence of sugar, the solution will turn purple due to the formation of elemental iodine.
taste it and see if it tastes sweet?
Neutral or 7.
To cattbarf: does the stach/KI test work. 2I- ---I2. The presence of the dark color shows that I2 is forming. This means that I- is getting oxidized. This means that the sugar (or water) must be getting reduced. Is this what actually happens?
