Teflon is used as a non-stick coating for pans and other cookware. It is very non-reactive, and so is often used in containers and pipework for reactive and corrosive chemicals.
Teflon is the DuPont trade name for Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a temperature resistant plastic. Teflon is also anti adherent (does not stick). It has many industrial applications but the most famous is in household for coating pans. Being a non-stick material the coating of metals can only be done in special installations and is not within reach of the normal hobbyist.
