What is the difference between mixtures and compounds?

Answer:
Mixtures are physical and the components retain their natural properties like sugar water
A compound is when two or more elements are chemically combined and has a new set of properties such as water
I'm not an expert but im guessing.
compounds - More than one type of atom grouped together
Mixture - A group of compounds put together.
Too right you're not an expert, Dean.

A mixture is just what it says. Some chemicals mixed together but not chemically combined, just mechanical.

A compound is the product of reacting chemicals together.
mixtures can be seperated through physical means, compounds are chemicals that are bonded together chemically, so they must be seperated chemically or through extreme heat.
The biggest difference is that:
In a mixture, the constituents (elements and compounds) do not lose their properties. e.g. sugar mixed in water. Water will taste sweet.
In a compound, the individual elements lose their properties. e.g. Hydrogen burns and oxygen is required for combustion. Water is made of hydrogen and oxygen and neither burns nor does it support burning.
Mixtures are combined by physical means and separated by physical means, whereas compounds are formed by chemical means and separated by chemical means. Also, mixtures can be present in any proportion, while the elements in a compound have to be combined in a set ratio (Law of Definite Proportions)...meaning that compounds can be written as formulas. Also, in mixtures, the original components keep their own physical and chemical properties, while in a compound, the components lose their physical and chemical properties to form something new. Hope this helped!
Compounds : - Are formed from a chemical combination of two or more Elements in definite proportions and can only be separated by Chemical means.

Mixtures: - Are physical combinations of any number of materials and have no definite proportion. Mixtures can be separated by mechanical means - such as filtration, solution, distillation, ..etc.
