What career can I have with Chemistry (and Biology, perhaps)? I'm going to univ next year and I'm in a quandary
Answer:
chemical engineer, chemist, physician, academic, xenochemist...there are quite a few possibilities.
dont know
Chemical engineer for one. There are lots and lots of careers for either one of those.
Depends which way your interests lead. If you are interested in the medical side of things, biochemistry and chemical biology are the way to go, especfially for the pharmaceutical industry. My best advice would be to latch on with a research group at your university and make sure you can get internships later on in college. The other thing to do is to look at industry-specific professional organizations.
I would tell you, though, from personal experience that a chem degree is much more valuable than a bio degree, unless you are going Pre-Med - then it doesnt matter. The bio degree is a nice side dish, but make Chem the main course.
Good Luck!!
There are many career options for chemistry and biology grads. Some of them are a career in the pharmaceutical industry discovering new drugs. There is government research in many different areas ranging from nanotechnology to weapons research. You will also be able to teach either in high school or in college. Many scientists also pursue nontraditional careers such as medical writing and patent law. Finally the degrees also prepare you well for a career in medicine. Hope this helps
If you will take Chemistry especially BSChemistry, the possible related jobs you can have are the following:
-You can work in Quality Control of industries as chemical analyst.
- You can be a teacher of Chemistry especially if you pursue Masters Degree.
- Some chemists work as researcher in Research and Development.
- You can work in any Bureaus of Investigation as Forensic Chemist
- You can be a consultant in Chemistry fields.
Good Luck!!
Forensic Science has both. Im at the University of New Haven for that.
some of the previous poster have laid the more traditional roles of a chemist.
Chemist, biologist have a huge presence in the pharmactectical industries. They also have a huge presence in the chemical industries, (IE dow, dupont, the oil companies, etc)
you can do material science and work for many many manufactories of different products
you can also do food science. Anything we eat, drink ,or anything that touches what we eat and drink have been thru the hands of some chemist.
There is also a huge push into the environmental field. Water has become the most valuable liquid on earth, and it's only going to get more valuable.
Chemistry is a huge field, and it's more marketable then a biology degree.
