Organic chemistry polar?
is the product formed from the bromination of cyclopentene with Br2 polar or non polar?
Answer:
The product will be 1,2 dibromocyclopentane. If you draw it out you will see that it is definetly polar.
im pretty sure its polar read this link http://www.answers.com/bromine
It depends if the bromination is cis or trans. If the bromination is cis, you will get a polar product. If it is trans, it is nonpolar because the dipole moments of each C-Br bond will cancel each other.
nonpolar. Organobromides are not polar compounds. At least they were not the last time I chromatographed one.
