no such reason, they could have named it A, B, C, D also.
K is the 1st level n so on..
we can also use other signification letters too they r only named.
K.L.M.N are shellls.
where k is nearest to the nucleus K can support 2
l can support 8,
M can do 18 but in some cases it is 8
N can support 32.
it's simply convention
