Weigh 50g fine sand in a 250ml beaker, add 150ml water and shake. set aside to allow the sand to settle.?
Answer:
Yup..I still got 50g fine sand and 150ml water although the sand is wet(obviously)
OK I've done that. Now what was the question?
Start with 50 g of dry sand, and measure its volome (a measuring cylinder would be better for this than a beaker). Then add the water, shake as directed, and let the sand settle again. What is the volume of sand now? This should tell you something about how the water fills the pore spaces between the sand particles, and also about settling compaction of saturated sand - the volume of sand should actually be less, despite the fact that you have added water.
