Need help with AP chem...graphite density...?

ok i'm supose to find the density of the graphite peice...
the amount of water was 50 ml
the cylinder + water is 139.97 g
the cylinder + water + graphite = 142.5 g
after I put in the graphite it went to 51 ml

Answer:
OK, so the volume added was 1 mL. The weight added was 142.5-139.97 gm. Divide this answer by 1 and you'll get the density.
2.53g = displacement of 1mL

Graphite density = 2.53g/cc
The density of synthetic graphite is 2.09–2.23 g/cm^3. Yer eaten.

Weigh the graphite separately. A small difference between big numbers is a crap measurement. Drylab before you do it - look up the correct value and be clever at the bench if you do not first get it.
