1) Which of the following is a difference between nuclear reactors and nuclear bombs?
A. Bombs make use of controlled fission reactions.
B. Chain reactions occur only in nuclear reactors.
C. Nuclear bombs have critical mass and nuclear reactors don't.
D. Nuclear reactors produce exactly one additional fission for each fission.
2) Deuterium is an element with one proton and one neutron. Deuterium is called a/an _____.
A. mass number of hydrogen
B. isotope of hydrogen
C. unstable element
D. radioactive element
3) The parent element below decays by beta decay. Which are true of the daughter element?
247/95 Am
A. It will have 243 neutrons.
B. It will have 96 protons.
C. It will be Am also.
D. It will have a mass
Answer:
1. B (check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/nuclear_rea... answer in first line)
2. B (isotopes are atoms with the same number of protons but different number of neutrons. Hydrogen has 1 proton but no neutrons thus B is the correct answer)
3. D ( all the rest are wrong. when beta decay occurs one electron is given out)
I think that you need to go study instead of wanting others to answer your questions for you. I'm sure you can go look at your notes or text book & figure them out. If you learn it on your own you'll be able to answer any similar questions. It's not fair to the students in your class who put time & effort into the subject. Good luck!
