Why should you brush your teeth after consuming refined sugar?
Answer:
Because bacteria eat sugars and urinate acid that will harm your teath.
ANY sugar in your mouth when you sleep (no saliva secretion) is anaerobically fermented to acids that eat into your tooth enamel. Starch also feeds the bugs. It is a very good idea to floss and then brush before going to sleep (no acid) and brush when you awaken (move out plaque deposited).
You can further reduce acid formed on your teeth with an antibacterial mouthwash after brushing, then rinse.
If you aren't getting cavities then things are OK as is. If you are gettign cavities, it makes sense to stop more from forming.
Refined sugars, are the main food for dangerous bacteria (Staphylococcus) and others cusing decay of teeth (caries). that will colonize the part of the unwashed tooth forming a "plaque"...if not cleansed or diluted away, that will be the perfect medium for them to grow.in a matter of few hours..the bacteria mentioned, will use the sugar to produce corroding acids that will destroy your anemle bit by bit (or chunck by chunk depending on how often you wash your teeth) filling it with propionic, lactic, saccharic acids.all of them attack the enamel. That is the reason.
