To produce heat energy would we use electricity?
Answer:
You need the electricity to produce the heat then the electric current will seperate the compound ....
electric..
Heat is produced by combustion, friction, chemical action ..etc. In electrolysis, electricity is used to separate component gases of, for example, Water H2O, to give Hydrogen and Oxygen gases, or Sodium Chloride (Salt, NaCl) which gives Sodium Metal, or Sodium Hydroxide liquid and Chlorine gas.
The process requires energy which is provided by the electricity which also produces heat.
We can make heat energy from most other types of energy, (kinetic/friction makes heat, as can chemical etc)
For electrolysis, we don't actually require heat energy at all.
The electric current creates a charge at each electrode. This charge attracts the charged ions that are in the solution you are trying to separate.
For example, in sodium chloride, positively charged sodium ions go to the negative electrode, while negatively charged chloride ions go to the positive electrode - opposites attract.
electro = using electricity
lysis = breaking up
so we are using electrical energy to create a current. That creates a charge, which causes attraction of ions and breaks up tha solution.
