PlEASE I NEED URGENT HELP in answereing those questions?
2)A Mercury isotope has a mass number of 204 and an atomic number of 80. How many neutrons does it have?
3)Which particle is found in the nucleus of the atom?
4)What is the number of neutrons in a Neon atom?
5)The atomic number of an element will not tell you the number of:
6)Which is the atomic number for the element Gold?
7)Which is the average atomic mass of Barium?
8)How many neutrons are in the isotope Kr8436?
Answer:
1. The proton. The identity of any element is determined by the number of protons in its nucleus. Change the number of protons, change the element. Carbon 12, six protons, six neutrons, six electrons, Carbon 13, six protons, seven neutrons, six electrons. Nitrogen 14, seven protons, seven neutrons, seven electrons, so you see that two different elements can have the same number of neutrons, what they cannot have is the same number of protons.
2. Atomic mass is number of protons + number of neutrons, so 204 = 80 protons + x neutrons, x = 204 - 80 = 124 neutrons.
3. Protons and neutrons form the nucleus of any atom. They are the heaviest particles, thus the atomic mass of any element is given by the total number of neutrons and protons.
4. Neon (depends on the isotope, of which there are three, neon 20, neon 21 and neon 22), atomic number is the same (10 protons), thus, neon 20, 10 neutrons, neon 21, 11 neutrons, neon 22, 12 neutrons.
5. neutrons, since you see from the previous examples that they can change and produce different isotopes having different atomic masses.
6. Au, 79 (from PT), so it has 79 protons
7. Whatever is listed in the PT, which is 137.33 amu (atomic mass units)
8. Kr 84, so it has 36 protons, thus 84 - 36 = 48 neutrons.
Why don't you open a book and do your homework yourself?
2. mercury-no. of neutrons=mass no.-atomic number.
204-80=124
3. nucleus of an atom has both protons and neutrons
5. its neutrons
Look at the periodic table. Atoms are arranged according to their atomic numbers.
Atomic numbers ( protons = electrons ) are used for classification. For isotopes, we take into account the no. of neutrons.
Atomic No. = no. of protons = no. of electrons
Atomic mass - Atomic no. - no. of neutrons.
Nucleus comprises of nucleons ( protons and neutrons).
I've given you the formulae....for questions like average mass of B...look at the periodic table!
1)neutron mainly distingushes atoms ... e.g in the caes of isotopes ... the ,main diff in them is the no. of neutrons. !
2) mass no = no of protons + no of neutrons
atomic no = no of protons only
thus no of neutrons = 204-- 80 = 124 nuetrons
3) protons n neutrons , both r fond in the nucleus
4)go find its mass no and atomic no .. then do the same thing as i did in above question
5)neutrons
6)go look at the preiodic table
7)again refer to preiodic table
8)from 8436 subtract the no of protons ( atomic no )
ummm. i will help ya...but you need to make sure that you actually LEARN the stuff and how to do it.
1)proton-thats what changes the atomic number and makes it a completely different atom...a change in electrons would just make it a different ion...and a change in neutrons would just change the atomic mass...so it is the proton
2)124- because the mass number is the number of protons plus the number of neutrons and since you know the total mass, you just subtract the atomic number which is the same as the atomic mass
3)protons and neutrons...electrons are found outside
4)10- mass is 20...atomic number is 10, which is same as protons.subtract them...see #2's explanation
5)neutrons.atoms are neutral so electrons and protons are equal amounts
6)79...gold is Au...look on periodic table
7)137.33...barium is Ba...look on periodic table
8) no clue...i am sorry
1) Proton - by definition 1 proton = Hydrogen, 2 protons = Helium, 3 protons = Lithium, 4 protons = Berylium, etc..
= atomic number

ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/atomic_numb...
2) Protons are ALWAYS found at the nucleus. Neutrons are also found on ever other element other than Hydrogen.
3) Ne is atomic number 20 so it has 20 protons.
It has a atomic weight of 40
number protons + neutrons = atomic weight
neutrons = 40 - 20 = 20.
5) Neutrons
6) Au = gold has atomic number of 79 = 79 protons
7) average atomic weight Ba is 137.33 g/mole
8) Kr84 has 36 proton
proton + neutron = atomic weight = 84
neutron = 84 - 36 = 48
