When cryolite is added to aluminium oxide to reduce the melting point, does it produce a mixture or solution?
Answer:
It is definitly not a solution, because the cryolite is a metal mixture (i.e. Na, Al and Fl), so a mixture of a metal and another metal is not a solution, i would say it is a molten alloy i dont know if molten alloys count as mixtures.
Good luck
it should be a solution.
cryolite is not only used as a reagent to reduce the melting point of aluminium oxide, but also acts as a solvent for it. Since its a solvent, you should get a solution.
hope this helps=)
i believe that would be correct me if i'm wrong
(Na^3(Al^2O F^6))
umm, doesnt it dissolve in it? so id prob go with mixture
ooh is water involved? then it would def be solution
cant remember
It does NOT reduce the melting point!
Aluminium oxide dissolves in molten cryolite at a much lower temperature (900C). Yes, that means its a solution of the oxide in cryolite.
All solutions are mixtures but not all mixtures are solutions. Once the aluminium oxide dissolves in the cryolite then it will be a solution.
It will be a mixture ,as the solubility of alumunium oxide in low, some part will remain suspended in the slution .obge
Cryolite it is a complex compound Na3[AlF6] It is use not only to diminish the melting point but also to increase electroconductivity of flux
