What will happen if the atmosphere is made up of mainly oxygen?

Answer:
First of all, such a situation would never occur because nature's equilibrium ( ecological system ) would get destroyed.

Let me give you an example.

Let's say CO2 doesn't exist in the atmosphere.
Now, during daylight plants including crops need ( apart from water ) CO2 to carry out their respiratory cycle. The cycle comprises of light reactions and dark reactions..ATP to ADP...formation of glucose. Let's not go into the detail.

Without CO2 plants would die.
Now, the herbivores ( or omnivores like human beings..especially those who are pure vegetarian ) would starve to death.

Now, the carnivores ( like lion, tiger etc.) would find no food as all plant-eating animals would have perished.

Eventually, the carnivores would also die out of starvation.
What about us.without any crops.wouldn't we starve...wouldn't its shortage create a problem for the economy.

Therefore, nature has a wonderful mechanism to maintain harmony with itself and one of the ways is to make the atmosphere comprise of various gases, like nitrogen, oxygen, carbon-dioxide and trace other gases. I'd say go ask your teachers as well. They'll be able to explain you better.
We'd all burn to death because would burn so rapidly that we wounldn't be able to control them.
Everything would catch on fire and plants wouldn't be able to grow.
oh dear.pure oxygen isn't gd 4 us...it will make our lungs xplode, heart beat too fast, eyeballs pop out!

plus if things burn...hehheh

a simple spark cna casue widespread destruction
In nature things have to be in balance. A small change in the ecological system makes huge differences.
As much as oxygen is one of the basics of life, it´s also one of the most hazardous substances because it can easily make chemical compounds with other substances.
asthma would go down

fires would be much more dangerous and much harder to put out

plants would have a lot of trouble surviving
Chaos! Plants will die then we wont have a source of oxygen and everyone will die
Well there would be a lots of forest fires because the smallest spark could ignite. But the whole world would not be aflame.

And if to much oxygen we would all die, pure oxygen will kill someone if having to constantly inhale it
Normal oxygen level is 20.9% the low alarm point is 19.5% the high alarm point is 21.5% the high /high is 23.o% at this point every thing will burn like u pored gasoline on it. NASA did run there capsule at 100% and about 5 lb pressure . That is why the astronauts burned up.
the environment would be thrown off and you would see less plant life
oxygen is inflammable so it will react with other substances and there will be fire allround
...explosions will be more severe than usual, fires will take longer to put out, etc.

but the composition of the atmosphere will gradually change to our current status quo, just like how we reached our status quo. We will use the oxygen and produce the carbon dioxide, etc.

hope this helps=)
Rate of Oxidation process will increase.
Be careful !! Ageing process will also incease.
