How could you determine the specific halogen present in yout test compound after fusion?

Answer:
Reflux it with sodium hydroxide.
Leave it to cool for a few hours.
Add a few drops of nitric acid.
Add some silver nitrate.

White precipitate = Chlorine
Cream precipitate = Bromine
Yellow precipitate = Iodine

This is the only test I know for halogens.
The way you would determine your specific halogen present is to use reagents such as nitric acid and silver nitrate then your confirmatory test is done with aqueous ammonia.
For chlorine: It forms a white precipitate on adding silver nitrate and it presence is confimed by its solubility in ammonia.
For Iodine: forms a yellow precipitate on adding silver nitrate and it presence is confimed by the insolubility of it with ammonia.
For Bromine:forms a milkish precipitate on adding silver nitrate and it presence is confimed by how it is sparingly soluble with ammonia.
Note that before each test is carried out it is acidified with nitric acid.
