When we prepared hydrogen gas in nellcen,s cell, why chlorine goes to anode ? not the OH?

Answer:
Both Cl and OH go to the anode. However chlorine gets discharge as whenever there are chloride/iodide/bromide ions present in the solution, they will be discharged instead of OH.
Both Cl- ions and OH- ions move towards the anode, but Cl- ions, if they are there in good concentration, are earier to oxidise that OH-ions, so chlorine is the product rather than oxygen and water.
