Why is it hard to test for the presence of of Cl in organic compounds than in inorganic compounds like HCl?
Answer:
because in inorganic substances, Cl is usually in the form of Cl-, and the "testing" is to precipitate it with Ag+ or whatever. in organic compounds it is covalently bound with carbon, therefore making such a test impossible.
there is another simple one, though. burn some of ur substance on a copper wire-if the fire turns green, u have a halogen in it (not necessarily Cl, but still, close enough)
