Is C.N.G. an effective substitute for petrol and diesel?

Answer:
CNG is just another option as a fuel. You cant substitute petrol for diesel as one fuels a spark ignition engine and the other a compression ignition engine. You can actually add an amount of CNG or other gases to the combustion air for either type of engine but only a spark ignition engine will run on 100% CNG.
With lower prices of CNG compared with petrol and diesel presently in many countries, the operation costs of autovehicles powered by these fuels is only about 60% that of petrol.
CNG is preffered coz it release very less pollutants in the air. Many cities across the world using CNG. Moreover it is cheaper than petrol deisel.
