What precautions should be taken during the Vickers hardness test?

Answer:
Most Vicker's hardness testers are automated and will have good reproducibility and few errors providing the diamond tip is not damaged.

The applied force (usually from one to 120 kilograms) is seldom subject to errors.

A safety precaution would be to avoid the "spark" or "shaving" area. Goggles are often used.
If you stay hard for over four hours, see a doctor.
