How feasible is armoring for face/neck of soldiers, w/ clear "bulletproof" mask slidable from helmet?
Answer:
"Clear" bulletproof material is available, but the polymers that fit that role are very thick and heavy. Additionally, even if the material stopped the round, the kinetic energy would still have to be absorbed somehow. That means that if you had a full-faced helmet made of such a material, and got shot in the face, you'll probably still have your neck broken.
This is why body armor is flexible, but still has rigid trauma plates protecting vital organs. Even with those, broken ribs are common after a hit, and you'll still go flying after you get shot. But at least it's better than dying.
It would be easier to make peace, not war.
All things are possible, just not probable.
( Except concerning GOD. With HIM there are ABSOLUTES )
I am not sure that you have the exact description down, but I agree with your reasoning that something more could be done to protect our soldiers and officers of the law. We would see much faster development of your idea if the daughters and sons of the ones who hold the purse strings of the Defense Department were deployed, and facing death daily.
of course its feasible and has been done (well, the current armor is not clear, but lexan faceshields are bullet resistant). "bulletproof" is never achievable as you can always find a round that can go through the heaviest of armor. HOWEVER, the disadvantages of having the armor may outweigh the advantages as your movement is very restricted. Put a solder in a tank and he is very bullet resistant - but can not do the job a foot solder can do.
