HELP! What is an equation for the initial reaction of tertiary-butyl alcohol with jones reagent?

Answer:
t-Butyl alcohol will not react with Jones reagent. Jones reagent is an oxidizing reagent. It is CrO3 in H2SO4. It will oxidize primary alcohols to carboxylic acids and secondary alcohols to ketones. Tertiary alcohols are not oxidized. Since t-butyl alcohol is tertiary it will not be oxidized. Hope this helps.
