Why people use nitro-compound?

Why people use nitro-compound to make explosive? ? Why does the nitro group have this kind of character ?

Answer:
The NOշ group is not only an oxidizer, but breaking the bonds between the NOշ group and the compound it's attached to results in the release of large amounts of energy because of the large amount of strain on the bond being broken (305 kj/mol for each NOշ group), in addition to the N-O bonds of the nitro group being broken (402 kj/mol for each NOշ group) results in so much energy release that the decomposition of the nitro compound results in an explosion
The advantage lies in the fact that the compound contains its own oxidizer. Remember that you need oxygen to oxidize->burn-> explode. What is available in the air may not be enough.
