About fish and oxygen at the bottom of a lake...?

If i remember correctly from my chemistry class, fish like to hang out at the bottom of lakes not only because it is cooler, but there is more oxygen down there. Why is this?

Answer:
cooler water can dissolve more O2.

That's why arctic waters are the best feeding grounds for whales and other sea creatures. But as answer #1 says, some lakes have less O2 at the bottom, especially if there's organic material decomposing there.
This is not always true. The bottom feeders such as catfish and carp are naturally near or at the bottom, but most fish can be found at various levels, depending on water temperature and available food source.
There are also many area's of some lakes that are almost void of oxygen near the bottom and Lake Erie is one such lake, although not very deep.
