Nickel plated surface became greenish. What's the root cause ?

[base material is berylium copper, plated with electro nickel]

corrosion. u have Ni2+ that has reacted with water and CO2 from the air. as a result u have most probably the NiCO3. actually, CuCO3 is also greenish.
Probably contaminated with some form of nitratrates, and oxidation. The copper nitrate is greenish in colour.

Something is causing the Ni atoms to be oxidized to Ni+2, which is green. I don't know what that something is, though. What do you use to clean it?
