Chem Question?

Write the net ionic equation(s) for the reaction(s) when equal volume of 0.2M BaS and 0.2M Fe2(SO4)3 are mixed.

Why do I have to write two different net ionic equations instead of one? The products formed are both solid, so is that the reason why?

Answer:
I think because it asks for the 'net' ionic equation you would be correct to write one line.
However, it never hurts to write the individual ionic equations down, if you slip up with the overall equation, you may still get marks for the correct half equations. I remember once (when I was studying many moons ago), getting the answer wrong by simple mathematical error after 3 pages of equations and I still got full marks for the question as I'd shown (and explained in words) each step of the equation and what it was for.

So your answer will in fact consist of 3 equations, and a sentence or two explaining what the equations are.

In chemistry, your written work must always be clear and reproducible, no matter what kind of work it is. If you dropped dead, someone should be able to pick up your work and fully understand what you've done and be able to continue with it from where you left off if necessary.
Ions matter. (ooo - I made a chemistry joke)

If you write the half reactions, you see if all the charge is being accounted for. Remember that in water you can "suddenly" get H+ or OH- (as you need them) to balance the half equation, so you want to make sure that the half reaction makes sense.

If each half reaction is properly balanced, then the sum, when adjusted for the ratio of compounds, will also be proper.

So, it's a good way to double check your logic.
