Organic Chemistry! What are the equations for the reaction of 2,4 dinitrophenylhydrazine with.?

a) butanal and b)cyclohexanone

Answer:
Look at:

ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/image:brady...

then replace the top R, and R' groups (top right picture) with a) C3H9 and H

In b) you have to replace the R and R' groups 5 CH2 groups in a circle to form the closed cyclohexyl ring.
its impossible to write the eqns here. Extremely sorry.

however lets try. assuming that u'll be able to make out what I am tryin to say.

CH3CH2CH2CHO + H2NNH - C6H4(NO2)2 = > CH3CH2CH2CH=N-NH-C6H4(NO2)2 + H2O

The adducts are formed with the carbonyl carbon.
butanal = CH3CH2CH2CHO

remove the oxygen on C=O, and double bond the C to the hydrazine (by removing the 2 hydrogen atoms on N), the by- product is water.

CH3CH2CH2CH=N-NH-(2,4)-Dinitro...

Cyclohexanone

cyclohexane=N-NH-(2,4)-Dinitro...
