Explain why no number is used in the names ethene & propene?

Answer:
Ethene is H2C=CH2 and propene is CH3CH=CH2. Wherever you will place the C=C double bond, they will still look the same. Hence, no numbering is required.
It is because numbers would be meaningless. There is only one place to put in a single double bond in each molecule ie only one structural isomer
eth means 2 and prop means 3.
