Can you use vegetable oil or olive oil instead of tiki torch oil in tiki torches?

i have heard that you can but it doesnt burn as well.

Sorry, It does not work. those types of oil's need to be heated to a temp (350-400 degrees) before ignition takes place. With Tiki oil, the fire produced is instant and requires only a little heat to ignite.
no it would not deter only draw bugs from the smell
