What is the meaning of compounds in chemistry?

Answer:
A chemical compound is a chemical substance of two or more different chemically bonded chemical elements, with a fixed ratio determining the composition.
When 2 or more pure elements bond they form a compound
Compounds are substances that are made of two or more elements. All we have in the universe are the elements that are in the periodic table. They don't like to be alone. (it's very, very difficult to isolate elements) so they bound with others and form compounds. For example the water is a compound made by O and H. Salt is a compound made by Na and Cl.
Don't confuse with mixture. In a compound the elements are bounded (for instance, they share electrons) in a mixture they are simply together)
