Will the reaction occur?

Mg2+(aq) + Fe(s) -----> Mg(s) + Fe2+(aq)? If it does how can u prove it theoretically?

Answer:
For the half-reaction Fe2+ + 2e- >> Fe E° = - 0.440 V
For the revers half-reaction Fe >> Fe2+ + 2e- E° = + 0.440 V
For the half-reaction Mg2+ + 2e- >> Mg E° = - 2.356 V

For the reaction :
Mg2+ + Fe >> Mg + Fe2+
E = - 2.356 + 0.440 = - 1.916 V < 0
and the reaction does not occur
No. Theoretically you should just put down no, because it really won't happen.
