In Ba(H2PO2)2 molecule what is oxidation number & oxidation state? how we will find it?

Answer:
the ions with one or two oxidation number(basic)u hav 2 memorise or know it!!
example:
Ba,Barium=+2
O,oxygen=-2
H,hydrogen=+1

the oxidation number of whole molecules=0
put the phophurus as X

+2+2(2(+1)+X+(2)-2)=0
2+4+2X-8=0
2X=8-4-2
=2
X=+1

the oxidation number is +1
Separate the salt molecule to its ions:Consider the ions of the molecule:
- barium ion
- dihydrogen hypophosphite ion

As all other alkaline earth metals barium forms only double positive charged ions. Therefore the oxidation number of barium is +2.

Since the salt molecule needs to be neutral the two dihydrogen hypophosphite ions are single charged.
Hydrogen in compound has always the oxidation number +2 (except hydrides with alkali metals).
Oxygen in compounds always the oxidation number -2 (except pewroxides and when bonded to fluorine).
The sum of the oxidation numbers equals the charge of the ion. Therefore phosphorus has the oxidation number +1 in this compound.

If follow the link below, you will find a useful list of rules for assigning oxidation numbers.
