Distilled water ??
I do not get whether distilled water and pure water are same terms or different ?
Answer:
Distilled water and pure water have a relation of super and sub set where pure water is the super set and distilled water is a pure water obtained by distillation process.
You can also get pure water (remember pure water doesnot mean mineral water) by methods such as ultra violet light, filtration, reverse osmosis etc.
Search on google/wiki is bound to give you more insight.
Distilled water is merely water that has gone through a filtration process.
Pure water is water with ONLY H20 and not other particles or ions.
Distilled water is usually filtered of pollutants and not ions. It all depends on the filtration system.
So, face value, no, distilled and pure water are different because of their content.
*REALLY* pure water won't conduct electricity very well. It's something like 17 meg ohms resistance.
Ordinary distilled water isn't anywhere near that pure.
Back in the 1960s or 1970s, the folks at Drackett developed Aerosol Windex. The formula required *really* pure water. The product was manufactured by Lenk Manufacturing, a custom packaging factory that was later purchased by Drackett, the people that invented Windex. (Bristol Myers sold Drackett a few years ago to the Johnson Wax folks, and it no longer exists.)
One of the maintenance men at Lenk noticed a faucet that was leaky, and being a good maintenance man, he replaced it. However, there weren't any stainless steel faucets on hand, so he used a brass faucet instead. The water passing through that faucet picked up enough copper ions that the Aerosol Windex was ruined.
As the product sat in warehouses, it started pinholing the cans. There were sodden cartons, which resulted in pallets falling over onto the floor, and the propellant - a mixture of propane and isobutane - leaked out, causing an explosion hazard. It was *quite* a mess, as I am given to understand.
And that's the difference between distilled water and pure water. Distilled isn't pure enough, and that can cause losses in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Distilled water is classed as pure water.
It is used to 'top up' the battery acid in a car battery and has to be quite pure.
If you taste it, it has no taste and is not pleasant to drink...Nor is pure water.
The re-condensed steam from boiling water is just about as pure as you can get.
The person who said that distilled water is simply filtered water is talking through his hat.
Distilled water is water that has virtually all of its impurities removed through distillation. Distillation involves boiling the water and re-condensing the steam into a clean container, leaving most contaminants behind.
Pure Water:
Water filters are primarily used to soften water and remove chemicals such as chlorine. Some scientists believe that the contaminants found in drinking unfiltered drinking water can be harmful to your health, even increasing the risk of developing cancer. The most common problem with unfiltered water, however, is a bad taste or smell.
not the same. distilled water has no minerals in it,
but may have chemical compounds with a boiling
point less than that of water. 212'F
pure water is "pure" water. nothing but water.
Of course it's different.
Distilled water is purified water obtained by means of distillation process. the distillation process itself will remove many impurities inside the water, e.g. dirt, solid suspended particles, and many other chemical compounds that have different boiling point with H2O.
Pure water only consists of H2O, without any other ions, chemical substances, etc.
