Will the chem majors have pity on a poor soul...?

I'm reading about free radicals- "Whenever a free radical reacts with a non-radical, a chain reaction is initiated until two free radicals react and then terminate the propagation with a 2-electron bond (each radical contributing its single unpaired electron)."

So, would this nebulous "2-electron bond" also be known as a "covalent bond"? or not?

yes. bonds formed in such a way are covalent. and covalent bonds are generally formed by sharing of electrons to form a shared electro pair (or a few of them, actually).
