Why do we rub, beat or brush the dirt in cloth while washing with detergents or soaps?

Answer:
Though the detergent penetrate the fibre and entraps the oil / dirt, just to loosen the unwanted particles, we rub / brush / beat the cloth so that these foreign bodies will remain suspended in water. Ofcourse some ingredients from detergents such as STPP, TSP , sodium silicates, CMC also retards redeposition of dirt.
SOAP BREAKS DOWN THE SURFACE TENSION OF WATER, BUT TO GET EMBEDDED DIRT OUT YOU NEED TO AGITATE IT. SOMEWHAT LIKE SHAKING A THROW RUG TO GET IT CLEAN.
