Different between Accuracy and Precision??

anyone can help me answer this question? =S
thank you!

What is the difference between accuracy and precision. Can you be one without the other? Give an example. What is the importance of each. Explain by using examples

Answer:
Accuracy: how close you are to the correct answer

Precision: how reproducible your results are.

Let's use exams scores

If you scored a 22%, a 20%, a 21% and a 19% on your 4 exams, you were NOT accurate (you were veeeerrrrrry far away from 100%!) but you can tell your mom your scores were reproducible, therefore you were very precise.

Conversely: if you score a 100%, a 90%, a 85% and a 95% you were not precise, your scores were all over the place, but you were very close to the right % (100% - your average score was 92.5%) which made you accurate but not precise.

If you score 100%, 100%, 99%, 97% you were both accurate (close to that perfect right answer) as well as precise - you scored practically the same thing over and over and over again.
Accuracy implies truth, or whether an answer or measurement is basically right, given a 'reasonable' margin of error.

Precision is the level of detail in the answer. Typically in science, it means the number of digits, especially after a decimal point.

For instance, you ask me how far it is to the next village. I tell you "About 5 miles". Or I could tell you "4.9323782347348" miles.

About 5 miles is a pretty accurate answer.
But 4.9323782347348 is both accurate, and a very precise answer.

I could also have said "13.29438754 miles". That would be very precise, but not all all accurate -- because the true distance is quite different from 13.3 miles, and not within a reasonable margin of error.
