How do you set up a filtration system (gravity and vacuum)?

Answer:
In gravity filtration, you simply pour the suspension in a funnel fitted with flutted filter paper. It is commonly used in suspension with larger residues.

While vacuum filtration, you need to have a suction flask connected with an air-tight funnel fitted with circular filter paper. The arm of the suction flask is then connected to either in air vacuum or water vacuum.
It is commonly used in filtering suspension with very fine residue that easily clog the pore of filter paper.
Take a sidearm erlynmeyer flask. Attach the vacuum to the sidearm, then place a buchner funnel or a funnel attached to a rubber stopper with a piece of filter paper on the top of the erlynmeyer. Ensure there is a good seal when you put it on the top of the flask. Then pour your sample in the buchner funnel or the funnel with filter paper, turn on the vacuum and your sample will filter.
