Candle vs. match: Restroom odor - same mechanism?

I read a previous question about the traditional remedies for fighting odors present in a restroom, and it was said by one parson that (1) lighting a match works because of the sulfuric smell released when it burns. Another said that it works because (2) the flame of the match burns the methane present in solid body waste.

I looked around and read that using a candle also is effective, which supports mechanism number two as the primary reason that burning the match works.

Does anyone know the answer? I ask because I had a disagreement with someone about whether using a lighter is similarly effective. I think it is.

Answer:
Since methane is odorless, you can rule out that explanation. I think the mechanism is that both a burning match and a burning candle give off odors which tend to "cover" other odors, much like air fresheners do.
I usually just spray febreeze everywhere after I do my business.
