What is the uncommon ion effect/salt effect?
Answer:
Thanks for asking this question, it made me look it up. Check out the references. If we have a solution of two ions (that is an ionic compound), a common ion added from another source will make the first compound less soluble. Makes sense from Le Chatelier's principle and equilibrium constants. What happens if a second compound is added that has no common ions? Interestingly enough, the original compound will often become more soluble (the Uncommon Ion Effect). Don't know if I 100% understand it, but I will be reading these pages and suggest you do the same if you want to find out more about it.
its common ion effect.i think. The common-ion effect is a term used to describe the effect on a solution of two dissolved solutes that contain the same ion.
The presence of a common ion suppresses the ionization of a weak acid or a weak base.
